Expressions of Interest now open to join our Youth Advisory Group

Have your say on issues important to young people as part of our Youth Advisory Group

Expressions of Interest are now open for young Australians aged 16 – 29 who are passionate about contributing to important discussions about youth health and wellbeing. Our current Youth Advisory Group members deepen and broaden the Foundation’s understanding of current challenges for young Australians. Applications close Wednesday 2nd October 2024.

Youth Advisory Group Mission Statement

We, the Youth Advisory Group, are a diverse and passionate group of young individuals with a variety of lived experiences. With this rich tapestry, we are dedicated to promoting the well-being of youth, especially those in crisis. Our work is rooted in our personal journeys and the powerful relationships we’ve built along the way.

Through education, advocacy, and fundraising, our mission is positive change in the accessibility of support for young people in crisis. We advise and collaborate in a way that leverages collective knowledge, lived experience, and diversity to ensure inclusive representation of the current youth experience.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking diverse voices to contribute to important discussions about youth health and wellbeing. As a member of our Youth Advisory Group, you will:

  • Deepen our understanding of issues affecting young people today
  • Influence our initiatives to help youth in crisis
  • Share opinions, aspirations, and concerns of young people in our community

Terms of Reference

The group will include up to ten young people aged between 16-29 (at the time of their appointment) and reflect the diversity of young Australians. All members must be current Australian citizens. This is not a decision-making or voting body on behalf of Sir David Martin Foundation, but a group that provides advice on issues relating to young people, particularly concerning their health and wellbeing.

Members of the group:

  • volunteer their services on a pro bono basis
  • are appointed as individuals, not representatives of any other agencies
  • commit to meet up to 10 times a year for one hour, facilitated by a member of the Sir David Martin Foundation team – approx 9x virtual meetings and 1x in person meeting (relevant travel costs met by the Foundation).
  • agree for their photo and biography to be shared on Foundation’s website and marketing mediums
  • contribute to Foundation’s understanding of range of challenges that different cohorts of young people face
  • contribute ideas in the development of a health promotion campaign destigmatising youth addiction
  • potentially act as spokesperson for the Foundation’s youth initiatives in a roundtable or media environment.
