It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Dame Marie Bashir AC, who served as Patron of the Sir David Martin Foundation from 2001 to 2014.
Dame Marie’s commitment to improving the lives of young Australians aligned seamlessly with our Foundation’s mission. Her distinguished career as a child and adolescent psychiatrist, combined with her role as the first female Governor of New South Wales, brought invaluable insight and advocacy to our work in youth alcohol and drug treatment.
During her thirteen years as our Patron, Dame Marie championed the Foundation’s efforts to provide accessible, evidence-based treatment for young people facing addiction. Her compassion, intellect, and unwavering dedication to mental health and youth wellbeing left a lasting mark on our organisation and the broader community.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dame Marie’s family and join all Australians in mourning the loss of this remarkable woman who dedicated her life to service.
