“My dream is to join the air force but I need to sort my life out first..”
This is what Lachlan* told us when he rang Sir David Martin Foundation first thing on a Monday morning to ask about the application process for Triple Care Farm (TCF).
Lachlan grew up in foster care because a court order deemed it unsafe for him to live with his parents when he was only 5 years old. They were both heavily addicted to heroin and had started to neglect him.
He was adopted into a loving family at age 13, but had lived in two foster homes by this point.
Although his life became more stable, Lachlan found himself wrestling with his identity and felt confused about where he belonged. He had been through a lot and channelling his frustrations was a challenge.
Mostly, he just focused on his school work.
At around 17 years of age, he began increasingly turning to alcohol for relief and eventually marijuana too. In his spare time, he began to spend less time doing his hobbies – hiking and BMX riding – and more time taking substances with friends.
Lachlan missed University enrolment. It was at this point that he realised he had lost control.
This is what led to that phone call on a Monday morning. Lachlan has always known that he wanted to join the air force. This is where he belongs.
Thanks to your support, he is now on the road to recovery.
Because of a program like TCF, he has the opportunity to achieve his goals and help bring healing to his family. Sometimes all it takes is the right support at the right time.
