Our partner Mission Australia has been running the annual Youth Survey for 18 years. A Youth Survey sub report reveals great concern for young people’s futures who are negatively impacted by their family’s drug and alcohol misuse, particularly without access to effective support.
The report identifies that nearly three in 10 young people agree that alcohol and/or drugs are a problem for their family and peers. These young people are more negative about their future and have greater concerns around mental health compared to young people who aren’t worried about this issue.
The impact of problematic alcohol and drug use is not limited to those in the community who directly engage with it. There is a negative ripple effect on young people who see and experience these behaviours in their close networks.
Findings point to the need for more age-specific rehabilitation services for young people across Australia.
Sir David Martin Foundation’s goal is to give safety, hope and opportunity to all vulnerable young Australians. The Foundation is the major funder of Mission Australia’s Triple Care Farm, a unique, holistic treatment centre which gives over 200 vulnerable young Australians, aged 16-24, a safe place to get well and prepare for new opportunities.
70% of young people who present to Triple Care Farm Withdrawal have a family history of substance misuse.
Sir David Martin Foundation is committed enabling a best practice model of treatment for young people with drug and alcohol addiction. Learn more about how young lives are changed.
